10 New Ones

Post by Thomas »

Seeing I haven't released anything in my own name since the previous decade, I was thinking now is the chance. I'm still finishing off my "Overkill"-project which is almost as good as done.

This release is something else, though. This is completely back-to-basics, 10 levels, no fuss. I made these maps in August and September, and originally expected to use them in a full blown 60-level map set for the original game; but that's not going to happen anytime soon. So instead of tossing them or butchering them, which I'd usually do, I decided to make them into a mixed bag of their own.

It's called "10 New Ones" and can be downloaded here.

This won't run on my Windows 98 SE machine. :-(

"WOLF4SDL file expects a newer version of Windows."

If you have the source code, I can compile it into a Win98-friendly EXE for you. :)

You'd think a tiny-winy mod wouldn't cause a shitstorm like this. :lol:

There's no need for your help. I was aware that the EXE wouldn't run under Windows 98, as I've compiled it with Visual Studio 2008, and like I wrote back in 2008: The support for Windows 98 and below ended with Visual Studio 6.0. At some point you've to make a cut and stop supporting ancient Windows versions. In fact, SDL 1.2.14 doesn't even officially support Windows 98 and below as platform anymore.

@Havoc: Thanks for making a Win98-capable EXE! :D

@Thomas: I use the "antique" Windows 98 SE for Wolfenstein because I can run all mods natively with full sound and music - no need for DosBox. That system also has a 17" CRT monitor which I like better for Wolf3d than my flatscreen one.

I've no idea where that came from originally. I recall I'd used it in my first mod "Abandon" and thought I'd do it justice this time. I'm tired of the purple wall - tired of all those odd colours in general. My next project will contain more "clean" coloured walls and an overall more concrete motive than, you know, turquoise ceiling, cyan doors, yellow hooks and purple walls and cyan steel panels.

I like this one better than the purple wall as well, looks less out of place.

I know it's a bit belated, but congratulations to Thomas on his Dome award. I did think this award was deserved; of what I've played of Ten so far, it's one of the most entertaining mods of the year - mapset or not. :)
