Images in posts

Post by wolf3d4all »

In addition to the board's internal attachment function, which enables you to upload images to insert in your posts, there's also an alternative now, where you can upload those images to imgur.

In the BBCode panel, press the imgur Image logo pic. You will be prompted with an upload dialog to pick an image from your computer, this image will be sent to imgur, and is also instantly displayed in the preview of your message draft.
You don't need to have an imgur account yourself in order to use this option.

Of course it's perfectly fine to use your own external links. Keep in mind though that some of them may expire rapidly.

Everyone seems to be using imgur these days, including me. I've had PhotoBucket nagging me about "URGENT WARNING your account will be deleted" recently, but it's lost some of its urgency after a few months. I don't have anythign worthwhile on that account anyway.

I usually upload images to TR forum and then link them here. Anyone registered on TR forum can do this without posting the actual post, just from the post writing stage. No limit on how long they stay.

Sounds a bit cumbersome to me, having to go to another forum first to upload before posting here, while you can just use the internal upload function in here, but to each his own I guess.

Isn't imgur of reduced quality? And how long does the image stay there? Forums are full of broken imgur links, not so?

Can try next time...sure.

I've seen a lot of broken Photobucket, TinyPic and Imageshack pictures, since these sites are defunct or dying and all. Imgur images, not necessarily.

But does it automatically reduce quality and size?
As my way I can have them full quality and size...

I donnow much about it, but here's the best I can do. I have uploaded and downloaded an image to and from imgur. The results:

Again, this is the best comparison I can do. If you need any other info about the two images, ask and I'll try to provide. I have no idea what's up with these numbers in the second histogram
