I need help Installing Borland 3.1

Post by Wolf King »

Can anyone tell me how to make use of the Borland exe provided in the Wolf3d Vault download? If not, does anyone know where I can download a functioning installer for Borland 3.1?

For anyone using that tutorial, as an alternative to messing about with PATH in AUTOEXEC.BAT, you can just go to C:\BC31\BIN and copy the 3 executables TASM, TASM2MSG, & TASMX to your source directory.

How can I get Borland to open files from my C: drive?
I know I'm an obnoxious coding noob, but please bear with me.

Are you using DosBox? How do you have the Borland directories setup, and where is the source directory with the .PRJ file? We need more details.

Yes.
As for my Borland directories they are C:\BORLANDC\INCLUDE and C:\BORLANDC\LIB
My projects source directory is C:\SOURCE\WOLF
I Hope this makes things more clear. :)

Can you access the .PRJ file by putting C:\SOURCE\WOLF in the "Open Project File" box directly?

Unfortunately, I can't. :( When I type and search C:\SOURCE\WOLF\*.PRJ I get the error "Invalid Drive or Directory". About 2 years ago I had the same issue and I was able to resolve it. I don't remember how, but after hours of trying I was finally able to get Borland to open files. Then I had the problem of the "Too many Subdirectories" error, but that's a story for another day. What I really would like to know is, whether or not there is some simple solution to the problem.

Are you mounting a root directory through which both BORLANDC\ and SOURCE\WOLF can be accessed? If you're mounting C:\BORLANDC\ directly, then I don't think you can access another directory on C: that isn't a sub-directory of BORLANDC. I don't know exactly how you have things set up, but I usually mount a root directory (e.g. "C:\DOSCODE") with the Borland compiler and any source directories in it, so everything can be accessed from there. If you're already doing that, then I don't know what's going on.
