Why does the Gog version of SOD have a green menu?

Post by Joshua »

Why does the Gog version of SOD have a green episode selection menu instead of a blue one? I think the blue episode selection menu is available in the steam version. I brought Wolfenstein 3D which includes Spear of Destiny on Gog because it is on sale. You can get it cheap now.

I played Spear of Destiny starting in 1993 and it had the blue menu.

Do you have a screenshot of this green menu? For one, I've never seen en episode select screen for SOD (aside from the text-based one by Formgen, run by BAT files), and two - the only menus I've seen for SOD had a blue background.

It is similar to the text based one by Formgen and Activision. The Formgen and Activision one used the SOD.exe. I don't have a screenshot currently.

The original menu was an executable (SOD.EXE). The GOG menu is just a few lines of text and the CHOICE batch command put into the DOSBox autoexec.

OT - It's actually possible to compile a BAT file *into* an executable file. In fact, I've used DOS utilities that do just that. They probably don't work right in some Windows OSs, though.

Yeah, it is a GOG creation. They have basically the same thing for Shadow Warrior Classic to load the add-ons.
